Compare Toyota Etios Liva and Volkswagen Polo

Toyota launched Etios Liva. The Etios Liva faces the tough competition from the Cars like Volkswagen Polo Here is a small compro to see where the Liva stands in front of the Polo. Both cars are almost neck to neck in this competition lets see who emerges victorious.

User friendly, reliable, with a trusted badge and most importantly, affordable. That’s what the new Toyota Etios is all about. If its makers have cut corners while creating the car, it is in places where it doesn’t show, or hinder the car’s daily use capabilities. It may not emanate a high-flying premium hatch feel, but that’s what keeps it well within the buying reach of a large majority.

the Liva looks more appealing owing to the rounded hatch at the back. That’s really where the magic of the Liva is. The rear end design is simply a delight to behold. It makes the front end look complete, something that the sedan could never manage. Two corner-mounted tail lights do the trick to give the Etios Liva not only a beautiful aura but also a very sporty stance. The car has a long wheelbase and pretty good ground clearance, but the overall design

Under the Etios Liva hood is a 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine. On paper, it isn’t all that bad, 80PS @ 5600rpm and 104Nm @ 3100rpm. In fact the figures are pretty close to most of the competition and better than some as well. Coupled with the Liva’s approximately 900 kg kerb weight.

The gearshift quality is good while the light body and grippy rubber make it a chuckable car. But the Liva’s steering feel and feedback is more tuned for comfort and ease of operation in tight spots, notwithstanding the leather-wrapped flat-bottomed sporty steering wheel! The ride quality offered by the Swift’s suspension is not as good as that of the Liva, but on the other hand, that’s what makes it a delight when it comes to corner carving. The Liva’s setup soaks up bumps better, of course. The engine of the Liva is a bit stressed compared to the Swift’s, especially at higher rpms. It is more tuned to do the city drive effortlessly and efficiently rather than thrill you to bits.

Pros : Toyota Reliability, Great for city driving, Reasonable price compared to Polo, Spacious interiors

Cons : Available in only petrol, Centrally mounted instrument cluster is not very comfortable

Pricing : (Ex-showroom)

  • - Toyota Etios Liva J - Rs. 3,99,000.00
  • – Toyota Etios Liva G - Rs. 4,59,000.00
  • – Toyota Etios Liva G (SP) – Rs. 5,05,000.00
  • – Toyota Etios Liva V - Rs. 5,49,000.00

Volkswagen Polo

VW Polo has been introduced with the 1.2-litre three-pot petrol and the 1.2-litre diesel engine options. Available in three trims – Trendline, Comfortline and Highline – deliveries for the petrol engined version of the car will begin in March. It will be a while before the diesel version of the Polo hits the streets however – deliveries for the Polo TDi will begin only in May.

The car looks good and very impressive from the outside with clean and simple design, Yet from the outside it givesthe big car feel. But when inside it doesn’t seem very big , once you are inside you will feel that you are in small car . The fit and finish of the car is not very great but not bad too . The quality of material could have been better.

As far as the specifications of the car goes like this..

The petrol variant of the VW Polo is equipped with a 1.2 litre engine with an output of 75HP @ 5400 rpm and a maximum torque of 110NM @ 3750 rpm.The diesel variant is also equipped with the 1.2 litre engine with an output of 75HP @ 4200 rpm and torque of 180 NM @ 2000 rpm.

Pros : External looks, Brand name

Cons : Plasticy interiors, High Price

Pricing :

  • Petrol Trendline Rs 4,34,000
  • Petrol Comfortline Rs 4,83,800
  • Petrol Highline Rs 5,72,000
  • TDI Diesel Trendline Rs 5,32,000
  • TDI Diesel Comfortline Rs 5,81,800
  • TDI Diesel Highline Rs 6,70,000

Bottom Line : Perhaps these two compete the most amongst all the other cars cause both brings the reliability factor into play and are quote good looking cars. Both ask for the premium price compared to other 1.2 liter hatch due to there brand name. Being said this i guess when it comes to engine refinement the Toyota Etios Liva is a bit ahead but it lacks the creature comforts given by Polo as well as the Diesel option.
