Spice LogoSpice mobile has announced the launch of its new handset S-820 for the music lover, with a Yamaha audio amplifier which ensures 3D surround sound.

The external memory of the phone can be expanded to 1GB which can store music and other multimedia content. With a built in FM player receiver, the phone can record FM radio too. The phone also comes with a wireless stereo Bluetooth headset providing a wireless experience.

Spice Mobile launches Spice X-1 gaming phone in India

Spice X-1No wonder Sony Ericsson is interested in acquiring India’s Spice Mobiles. Their recently launched gaming phone, Spice X-1, looks like something the Swedish-Japanese handset maker may release in the not-that-distant future as part of its “F” series of mobile gaming friendly handsets.

Back to Spice X-1. It’s clearly a mobile phone designed to appeal to the youth audience who dig the idea of playing games on their handsets. Haier Mobiles to re-enter in India

Haier logoSensing strong revenue from GSM based mobile handset business, Chinese major Haier is planning to refocus on the same and is working with software companies and US based Qualcomm to add more applications for better functionality in its cellphones.

“We are more focused this time and are looking at GSM business more aggressively,” Haier Mobiles India Marcom director Avijit Dutt told.

He added that, however, the company would not exit its CDMA business.

“Though the company has done pretty well in the CDMA business and among the top three handset players in this category, it is seeing a better revenue inflow than the other business. But, there is a limit as the operators are more attracted towards the other technology, and the real money and business is in GSM,” he said.

Samsung TouchWizSamsung Telecommunications India (STI), has announced the launch of its full touch screen, ultra-slim lifestyle segment mobile phone – the Samsung TouchWiz (F480)- in the Indian market.

The TouchWiz is being launched to coincide with the Olympic Games 2008.

Nokia unveils GPS mobile

Unitech mobileGlobal telecom major Nokia Monday unveiled its first global positioning system (GPS)-enabled mobile device for the Indian market to navigate and map a location of choice.

Priced at Rs.18,000, the Nokia 6210 navigator comes with its Maps 2.0 version that offers real-time voice and visual guidance using in-built GPS support. The device also has an integrated in-map compass for pedestrian guidance.

The navigator is preloaded with maps of eight cities across the country. Maps of other cities will be added in phases after securing clearance from the surveyor general of India and the defence ministry, Nokia India marketing director Devinder Kishore told reporters here at a preview of the new product.

Global consumer electronics and mobile phone vendors are going green in India. Heavyweight brands like Nokia, LG, Samsung and Haier, among others, are planning to roll out products that will be positioned on an environment-friendly platform.

It is the first time that environment as a brand strategy has evolved in the Indian consumer electronics industry. Till now, electronic brands had either used lifestyle, technology or health positioning in India.

“At a time when product features are becoming similar and efforts to drive emotional USP with brand ambassadors is getting cluttered, an environment platform helps attract the top end of the market. India is seen as a more attractive environment-friendly market than the US or Europe,” noted brand consultant Harish Bijoor.
