This tie-up will enable Vodafone customers in India to access Shaadi.com’s matrimonial services on their mobile phones.

‘Shaadi.com on Vodafone’ will enable Vodafone users to search and view profile details of other members without the need to log on to the Internet. Mobile phone users will be able to browse through profiles, express interest in members, accept/ decline interest sent to them by other members and send personalized messages to prospective matches.

Media JV offers movie clips on mobile phones

kuselanA path-breaking joint venture (JV) between Bay Talkitec and Saimira Access Technologies will help film buffs abroad watch trailers of the forthcoming Rajnikanth starrer “Kuselan” on mobile phones. “Thanks to huge inventory of movie software of Saimira, our collaborative venture would help us corner a large segment of the Rs.84 billion value-added services (VAS) global market through video service delivery platform (VSDP) that exploits the growing 2.5G and 3G networks,” K. Sheker, Bay Talkitec co-founder, said.

“The foray into mobile VAS is a logical extension of our existing business and it will be the future growth engine for us. With mobile penetration increasing exponentially and India expected to allow 3G in a few months, the timing of our launch is expected to lead to a revenue growth of at least Rs.1 billion in three years,” Sheker added.

Motorola - Ferrari : co-branded handset

US-based mobile phone maker Motorola today said it has joined hands with Italian sports car manufacturer Ferrari to launch a co-branded 3G-enabled handset priced at Rs 21,840 in the Indian market.

The new handset -MOTORAZR 2 V9 Ferrari would be available exclusively at the Mobile Store for the first week of its launch. However, the phone would not be a limited edition device.

“The consumers mindset and taste is rapidly changing in India. The formula one racing culture is fast catching the fancy of the Indian youth and we are confident that we will find the right kind of audience for the product here,” Motorola Senior Director, Sales and Distribution (India and South West Asia) Lloyd Mathias said.

Idea adds Spice

In one of the biggest deals in the Indian telecom sector, Aditya Birla group’s Idea Cellular on Wednesday said it would acquire BK Modi’s Spice Communications to strengthen its position in the growing telecom market. The deal consists of four related, but distinct transactions.

To begin with, Idea will acquire the Modis’ 40.8% stake in Spice. Subsequently, Idea will launch the mandatory 20% open offer for the Spice shareholders, jointly with Telekom Malaysia International (TMI).

Idea will merge Spice with itself and offer a 14.99% stake to TMI through a preferential allotment. Idea will earn Rs 7,294 crore ($1.7 billion, assuming an exchange rate of Rs 43) by selling this stake to TMI. This would make it one of the largest infusions of FDI into India.

Motorola and Kodak join hands

kodak logoUS-based handset manufacturer Motorola has joined hands with digital imaging solution provider Kodak to launch a new line of camera phones, which will hit the market this year.

MOTOZINE ZN5The company unveiled the first phone of the series, MOTOZINE ZN5, a five-megapixel cameraphone with built-in image correction, here today. Motorola has entered into a ten-year agreement with Kodak as per which the companies would develop phones for the Zine series, Motorola Inc Corporate Vice-President (Mobile Devices Marketing) Jeremy Dale said.

The phone would be launched in China in July before the Olympics and later, will be introduced in India.
