A court in India has given the country’s taxman the green light to pursue Vodafone, the world’s largest mobile operator by revenue, for an estimated $2 billion (£1.4 billion) in capital gains tax.

Vodafone Essar today removed the mobile phone signal towers following dismissal of their petition against the Thane Municipal Corporation by the Bombay High Court. Vodafone Essar had challenged the order of the Thane Municipal Corporation to remove the towers in the vicinity of the Thane district court.
