RIM finally speaks on security issue

Security RIMResearch in Motion (RIM), the company that provides BlackBerry service in India has asked Indian officials to take action against other service providers with similar encryption. The company said that lowering the encryption level of BlackBerry services in India will not solve the security concerns.

The Canadian company, RIM, has around 100,000 customer base in the country. The premium services offered by company have been severely affected due to its wrangling with Department of Telecommunication (DoT) over encryption level.

RIM has said that it was being singled out by DoT officials and said that there were several other companies providing similar services to customers with similar encryption level.

RIM logoIt named four other mobile companies in India that gave similar encryption level and named four as Windows Mobile ActiveSync, Nokia Intellisync, Motorola Good and Seven Networks.

The company said that “all these technologies are widely available and used throughout India. Functionally, all of these solutions use encryption similar to BlackBerry. Thus, focusing on BlackBerry alone will not solve any security concerns over encryption.”

RIM has said that giving unauthorized access to customers’ data or lowering the encryption level will compromise the safety of online transaction of its customers as it will give easy access to hackers to hack into their data.
