With Motorola planning to separate its mobile business from other operations, consumer electronics major Videocon has said that it had bid to acquire Motorola’s mobile handset business.

Videocon (more) group chairman, Venugopal Dhoot, in an interview with CNBC-TV18 said that they are in the race for Motorola’s handsets as they have a lot of business in mobile telephones and have got licences for 22 circles and besides Motorola handsets have 15 % market share globally.

Dhoot refused to divulge how much they were offering for Motorola’s (more) mobile business saying, “if I disclose that (offer for Motorola) then you could come to know what is in my mind and it will clearly not make business sense.”

According to Merrill Lynch Motorola’s handset business is worth about $3.8 billion.
