Barclays India launches mobile banking operations

In an attempt to offset their disadvantage of having just 4 branches in India, Barclays Bank has launched a mobile banking service that will enable customers to make banking transactions from their phone, irrespective of its make.
The service is menu-based and the first one in the country to be on the Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) platform which is a safer and quicker channel than the currently prevailing platforms like text-messaging and GRPS.
The service, ‘Hello Money’, will enable customers to carry out a range of banking transactions from balance inquiries to third party fund transfers.
One can also make utility and credit card bill payments through the service, apart from requesting for doorstep-banking or starting a fixed deposit.
The service is completely user-friendly and the user has the option of choosing English or Hindi as the language for the menus, according to Barclays Bank, India & Indian Ocean managing director Samir Bhatia.
